Fishponds Primary Care Centre
Beechwood Road, Fishponds, BS16 3TD
The Fishponds Health Centre was overcrowded, extremely busy
and totally inadequate for the range of primary and
community care services provided there. No space was
available within the building to allow for the future
expansion of services and many parts of the building were in
need of major repair or replacement.
The centre housed two General Practices serving
approximately 24,200 patients as well as district nurses,
health visitors, speech and language therapists and
community-based midwives.
Services provided at the Health Centre included general
medical services, ante and post natal clinics, mother and
baby clinics, family planning sessions, podiatry, welfare
rights advisory services and drugs counselling.
These services have all now been transferred into the new Fishponds Primary Care Centre. The new Primary Care Centre has been built on the existing site and will provide improved facilities for existing staff, with scope for increased numbers, as well as a pharmacy and additional clinic rooms.
The benefits in terms of the outputs that will flow from the new facility include improvements to access times and multi-disciplinary working. The accommodation is modern and meets statutory regulations as well as providing scope for the transfer of secondary care services out of hospitals to a local setting.
