Providing new primary health care
  • South Bristol Bristol Community Hospital

Current Projects

South Bristol Community Hospital

Work commenced on the construction of the new £45m South Bristol Community Hospital in March 2010 and the first patients are due to be seen in Spring 2012.

Health services provided at the hospital will include:

  • A walk-in minor injuries unit and GP out-of-hours service
  • Operating theatres for day surgery
  • Inpatient beds for stroke and rehabilitation
  • Clinics for a range of outpatient appointments
  • Diagnostic tests such as X-rays, scans and endoscopies
  • Dental services and training for student dentists

Senior clinicians and managers, local people and professional estates staff have all been involved in helping to draw up the design of the hospital.

The hospital will be on three floors with a total floor area of around 11,000 sq m. The out-patient services, minor injuries unit and diagnostic services are grouped on the ground floor with the wards, rehabilitation space and day theatres on the first and second floors.

South Bristol Community Hospital is located within the Hengrove Park development. Hengrove Park is the centrepiece of a major regeneration programme to transform South Bristol into one of the most sought after areas in the South West. The site will ultimately feature a range of new homes both to rent and buy; employment sites both large and small, significantly enhanced public transport as well as a high quality large park.

The first phase of the development will include:

  • South Bristol Community Hospital
  • South Bristol Skills Academy
  • Leisure Centre
  • Associated infrastructure
